We're Back!

G & I spent the weekend up in Gig Harbor, WA attending the wedding of one G's groomsmen. The ceremony was sweet, the beer (groom-brewed) was excellent and a good time was had by all, especially the mosquitoes who evidently had quite the feast on my exposed legs. But can we talk about the awesomeness that is Virgin America? First of all, the inside of the plane is like gay disco. It's lit with purple and blue lights and as you're boarding they play techno. The only thing missing is a gaggle of shirtless pretty boys. The first class chairs have the standard footrest and complimentary cocktail while the hoi polloi board.

But the best part of the whole thing is Red, the in-flight entertainment system. Theoretically, it's powered by Dish to provide satellite television while in-flight. That lasted for a good 30 seconds before cloud cover interfered with the signal. There are also a bunch of movies to choose from, but I'd just seen half of them on the way to/from Europe and our short flight wasn't terribly conducive to a movie. There is also a completely cool in-flight message board (chat with your fellow passengers!). Incredibly excited about this, I was all ready for some verbal sparring with a couple of 12 year olds, but, alas, nobody was logged in. So G & I resorted to the coolest feature of Red--games! The 12 year olds were undoubtedly playing Doom (and therefore not on the chat board), but G & I opted for mahjong! That's right, an hour and a half of Asian Memory. That and a glass of shiraz made the flight go by in a snap. All-in-all, an excellent flight!

Uh-oh. She's ranting again.

Y'all may have heard about the 44 pound cat found wandering the streets of the Garden State. Although Princess Chunk wasn't wearing a collar, it was pretty clear to all that she didn't get that porky on mice and spiders, if you know what I mean. Sure enough, the owner came forward...but she didn't take him back (she turned out to be a he--hardly surprising they didn't figure that out). It turns out that Prince Chunk is yet another victim of the foreclosure crisis. His owner lost her home and abandoned the kitty because she had nowhere to take him.

Okay, first of all, I'm pretty sure I know where the mortgage money went and I hope Purina is happy. Secondly, you cannot leave a 44 pound cat to fend for himself on the streets. He's too fat to get out of the way of oncoming cars. But he's just fat enough to make a nice coyote snack.
